Position Overview: We are seeking a skilled and motivated Marine Insurance Underwriter to join our team based in Rotterdam. As a Marine Insurance Underwriter, you will play a pivotal role in assessing and analyzing marine insurance risks, determining coverage, and ensuring that policies are accurately underwritten. Your expertise in maritime industry practices, risk assessment, and attention to detail will contribute to the success of our insurance services.

Responsibilities:

• Evaluate and underwrite marine insurance applications, adhering to company guidelines, policies, and procedures.
• Assess risk factors associated with marine insurance policies, considering vessel types, cargo, routes, and other relevant factors.
• Analyze loss history, claims data, and market trends to determine appropriate premium rates and coverage terms.
• Collaborate with brokers and clients to gather necessary information for accurate risk assessment.
• Review and interpret technical documents, including vessel specifications, navigation routes, and cargo information.
• Utilize underwriting software and tools to ensure accurate policy pricing and issuance.
• Maintain a deep understanding of the maritime industry, market conditions, and regulatory requirements.
• Foster relationships with brokers, clients, and industry professionals to enhance business development opportunities.
• Provide exceptional customer service by addressing inquiries, providing information, and offering insurance solutions.
• Collaborate with other departments, such as claims and risk management, to ensure comprehensive coverage and efficient claims processing.
• Stay informed about emerging trends, technological advancements, and regulatory changes within the marine insurance industry.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Maritime Studies, or a related field.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in marine insurance underwriting.
• Proficiency in English is required; additional languages are a plus.
• Solid knowledge of marine insurance principles, practices, and industry standards.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with clients and colleagues.
• Detail-oriented mindset and strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
• Proficiency in using underwriting software and tools for policy issuance and premium calculation.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
• Strong negotiation skills to collaborate with brokers and clients in developing suitable coverage solutions.
