The two main purposes of the role are to:
- Lead and develop my client's insurance reserving, and provide appropriate recommendations to the Capital Management Group.
- Lead and manage my client's capital assessment process: calculation of the capital position, recommendation of associated regulatory submissions, and appropriate capital management strategies and asset mixes to ensure the client remains appropriately capitalised.
In addition the role holder advises and supports the Head of Risk, A&U, the CMG, the IMG, the Audit and Risk Committees, Senior Management and the Board on all aspects of reserving and capital related issues. This requires a significant amount of autonomy because the role holder is the second most senior actuarial person (in terms of reserving and capital) within the business after the Chief Actuary, which is a highly skilled, key function as defined by the FCA and Solvency II.
