Compliance Business Partner - London

1.         Purpose
To independently perform regulatory compliance advisory activities which gives assurance to senior UK management and to the board. Contribute to keeping a sound & honest company in which people’s actions are based on integrity.
Provide good compliance advice through the successful management of stakeholder relationships. Work closely with the Compliance team and other business departments to maintain compliance policies, local UK procedures and applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

2.         Dimensions
Be a visible and accessible compliance presence for business and key stakeholders. Be the sparring partner for the UK business on compliance and integrity matters. Challenge and provide assurance to senior (country) management, management committees and the board regarding compliance with all current and expected legal and regulatory requirements.
The Operating Environment and Context of the Job
Operate as an international insurance and reinsurance business through a number of worldwide regulated carriers and intermediaries. This role entails delivery of day-to-day compliance advice, performing monitoring activities and providing training to (mainly) the UK branches of the insurance company SE and the inhouse cover holder. The branches have developed strongly in recent years with a focus on Marine, Political Risk and a digital proposition across niche segments in the domestic UK Property & Casualty market.   

3.         Key Result Areas/ Responsibilities - with oversight from a Compliance Manager:
  • Compliance advisor for the UK Branches (main focus) but also deployable for other compliance activities
  • Tracking of current and new legal and regulatory requirements
  • Provide subject matter expertise on UK Consumer Protection and Delegated Authorities
  • Proactively provide support, guidance and challenge on compliance issues, building effective relationships with key stakeholders
  • Handle and document business and regulatory queries in an adequate and timely fashion (e.g. regulatory returns, data queries and consultations)
  • Proactively support and guide business change and operational initiatives to achieve compliance in a cost effective and business friendly manner (compliance by design)
  • Provide subject matter expertise on UK Consumer Protection and Delegated Authorities
  • Become the go-to person and arrange internal training
  • Provide input for the development compliance policies and procedures in regard to local UK regulatory requirements
  • Identify & escalate risks and control deficiencies to management including solutions to mitigate future issues.
