Role Description

  • Lead, develop and embed a strong risk and compliance vision, culture and strategy for the Bank, integrating risk management into the policies, processes and culture of the Bank
  • Manage and regularly refresh the Bank’s risk management framework ensuring that it meets business requirements, that arrangements are in place for the identification, assessment, quantification, mitigation and reporting of risks across the business and that it is compliant with prevailing regulatory standards.
  • Make recommendations to the Board on the setting and monitoring of risk appetites, thresholds and limits. Implement effective risk reporting to management, board and board committees to evidence compliance with risk appetite, reporting on any exceptions on a timely basis
  • Review business strategy and initiatives in the context of agreed risk appetite and tolerance, providing appropriate challenge
  • Ensure appropriate quantitative methodologies for risk are in place throughout the bank for key prudential risks (credit, liquidity/treasury and market/interest rate risk). Deliver stress and scenario testing methodologies that are consistent with regulatory expectations and appropriate for the markets and environment in which the bank operates
  • Provide independent oversight of the credit risk policies owned by the Director of Credit and the liquidity/interest rate risk policies owned by the Finance Director
  • In conjunction with the Finance Department undertake ongoing regular reviews of the ICAAP, ILAAP, Recovery Pack and Resolution Plan, and other regulatory documents as required, providing input, challenge and oversight to their production
  • Work with the Chair of the Risk Committee to ensure risk assurance, governance and compliance arrangements are in place and are appropriate, effective and in line with the three lines of defence risk model
  • Work with the Chair of the Audit Committee and the outsourced Internal Audit function firm to agree and then oversee an appropriate annual internal audit plan
  • Oversee the co-ordination, analysis and reporting of operational risk, reviewing department risk registers, ensuring risk events are captured and providing risk challenge to the business teams
  • Monitor the performance of the Compliance function, ensuring appropriate arrangements are in place in respect of regulatory compliance, conduct risk, anti-money laundering and financial crime prevention
  • Develop a good working relationship with the PRA supervision team and promote an open and effective working relationship with the PRA, FCA and other regulatory bodies as required
  • Keep up to date with prevailing PRA and FCA regulatory requirements responding to questionnaires and Consultation Papers as appropriate ensuring that the business is taking action to mitigate and address the risks in a changing regulatory landscape
  • Monitor the effectiveness of regulatory reporting processes, ensuring that arrangements are in place to deliver returns, advices, notifications and applications accurately and within required deadlines
  • Maximise risk opportunities, monitoring the internal control environment of the Bank to ensure that it is adequately and appropriately resourced, commensurate with the nature and scale of its business activities

Role Requirements

  • Minimum 5+ years experience as a Deputy CRO/CRO
  • Significant experience in risk management
  • Proven record in senior management able to lead and motivate across the business
  • Experience of developing and delivering banking risk management frameworks
  • Comprehensive risk knowledge able to oversee and challenge understanding of all risk types, including financial and operational risk, and delivery of ICAAP, ILAAP and IRRBB regulatory requirements
  • Private Bankin/Wealth Management backround is advantageous
