Underwriter - Japanese Property & Liability

We are working with an international and forward-thinking insurance provider with a global presence. We are looking for an experienced and motivated Underwriter to specialize in Japanese Property & Liability business. If you have a strong background in underwriting, are well-versed in the property and/or liability insurance sector, and have the ability to work closely with stakeholders while being open to travel, we want to hear from you.

Job Summary:

As an Underwriter specializing in Japanese Property & Liability, you will play a pivotal role in assessing, underwriting, and managing insurance risks within our portfolio. This role offers an exciting opportunity for candidates located in Amstelveen, Brussels, Dusseldorf, or Barcelona, and it involves travel to interact with clients and partners. 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Underwriting Excellence: Assess and underwrite Japanese Property & Liability insurance applications, analyzing risk factors, policy terms, and coverage limits while adhering to company policies and industry regulations.

2. Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with brokers, agents, and clients, providing exceptional customer service, addressing inquiries, and collaborating effectively to achieve underwriting objectives.

3. Risk Analysis: Conduct in-depth analysis of risk data and market trends to make informed underwriting decisions, ensuring that policies are accurately priced and adequately protect the company's interests.

4. Travel: Travel to meet with clients, brokers, and partners as needed. This role may require periodic visits to various locations to foster relationships and facilitate underwriting processes.

5. Policy Compliance: Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company guidelines, industry regulations, and legal requirements.

6. Market Research: Stay informed about the Japanese Property & Liability insurance market, identify emerging trends, and provide input to develop innovative underwriting strategies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field (Finance, Business, Risk Management, etc.)
• Proven experience in underwriting with a focus on Property and/or Liability insurance.
• Excellent knowledge of the Japanese insurance market and related regulations.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
• Fluent in English (additional language skills are advantageous).
• Willingness to travel for business purposes as needed.
• Analytical mindset, attention to detail, and the ability to make data-driven decisions.
• Professional certifications such as CPCU, CIC, or equivalent are a plus.
